We work with youth during and after school to give them a chance to get involved in building and using wooden boats -- something that most inner city youth have never dreamed of.  You should see their eyes light up when they realize that it's a real boat we're talking about.   

These youth gain skills and values that serve them throughout their lives.  Not only do they learn how to work with wood, they learn that a set of plans and a pile of raw materials can be transformed into a thing of beauty and usefulness.  They learn that it takes persistence, discipline, teamwork, and careful craftsmanship.   After the boat is completed, they have a whole new understanding of what it takes to accomplish something and they have a can-do self-confidence that enables them to take on other challenges.
