Soliciting Pledges:  
All participants are expected to solicit pledges of a financial contribution to Urban Boatbuilders from friends, coworkers, family, or other potential supporters.

We encourage each participant to generate $200 in pledges, although the minimum total of pledges required for participation is $50.

I'm writing to ask if you would be one of my sponsors when I do the Mississippi Passage -- an 80-mile rowing and paddling trip down the Mississippi River for the benefit of Urban Boatbuilders on  July 23th - 27th.  Urban Boatbuilders is a nonprofit organization that helps urban youth develop valuable life skills such as persistence, teamwork and craftsmanship through the challenging process of building boats.

To really get a flavor for what this organization does, check out the "In the Shop" section of their website at http://UrbanBoatbuilders.org.  If you would be willing to pledge either a flat amount or an amount per mile you will be helping to make it possible for them to serve many more urban youth. All contributions are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt..

They are providing a very simple way for sponsors to make a secure, online contribution through Network for Good. Look on http://UrbanBoatbuilders.org for "Mississippi Passage Sponsors – click here to make your contribution on-line." Please enter my name and "Mississippi Passage" in the designation box before you submit the form (and let me know that you made a pledge).

If you would prefer to wait until after the event to make your contribution, send me an e-mail telling me how much you would like to pledge.  When I get back, I'll send you instructions on how to pay your pledge.
