Our mission is “to empower youth to build the skills they need to succeed in school, work, and life through woodworking and experiential learning.” Through our Partnerships and Apprenticeships, hundreds of youth develop technical woodworking skills, social and emotional learning skills, and a connection to their local waterways.

Position Summary:
Urban Boatbuilders is seeking a Program Coordinator to support the Partnership and Apprenticeship programs of our mission-driven organization. The Program Coordinator serves as a primary instructor and trainer, leading hands-on programming with young people. They will support the logistics of the partnership program in collaboration with the program manager. Additionally, this position will support the development of programs and resources to ensure the success of program participants.

Position Status: Full-time, exempt
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $52,000

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Program Instruction & Support
-
Serve as the lead instructor for the partnership program’s contracted projects, instructing groups of young people in the building of boats, longboards, and other woodworking projects

Act as a substitute instructor when other instructors are temporarily unavailable

Coordinate with the program manager to develop and deliver instructor training and support to achieve program goals
-
Co-plan and facilitate regular instructor meetings
-
Conduct instructor observations to provide constructive feedback and coaching to support instructional quality and development
Program Development and Coordination
-
Work with the program manager to manage project preparation and logistics, including toolkit preparation, tool sharpening, project materials, and project supply inventory

Work with partners to execute program logistics, including delivery & retrieval of tools and materials, and launch event programming

Utilize partner evaluations and instructor feedback to continuously improve programming
-
Continually develop and utilize the program curriculum and resources. Support curriculum implementation with program instructors
Partner Outreach, Recruitment, and Support

Conduct outreach to existing and potential partners to secure projects

Represent Urban Boatbuilders and the partnership program through meetings, outreach events, partner site visits, and timely communication

Assist in the development and stewardship of partner relationships to expand programming
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the field of youth development, preferably in project-based learning
-
Excellent communication skills

Excellent organizational skills, dependability, and the capacity to manage time

Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

A positive, inclusive attitude with strong interpersonal skills

Capacity to uphold high standards set by the community

Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends

A valid driver’s license
-
Ability to lift and move boats, lumber, or equipment up to 50 lbs.

Ability to pass a Minnesota Child Protection background check upon offer of employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching or instructing
-
Woodworking skills, boatbuilding skills, and/or building experience
-
Experience serving or teaching in underserved communities
-
CPR/First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, or Wilderness First Responder certification
